Undetwater color cameras.

Do these color cameras actually show a color picture down deep?

As a scuba diver, I know that the color spectrum is lost the deeper you go, and without a light, you see less and less color the deeper you go. After you light it up, then you get the colors again.

Do these lights on the camera bring the color spectrum back to view?

BBB- The MarCum color camera does not use Infra Red lights, it uses a very powerful LED light. and yes it does show color. But the deeper you go, the more reds and such you loose as they dont have a good wave length to support seeing. The LED lights do help, but you need clean water without a whole lot of particulation!

Thanks, I haven't read up on them at all, and didn't know that the light was LED. I have one of the cheaper line cameras that uses a Infra red lights, and [PoorWordUsage]-u-med that the color cameras used them also.

Now that I know that they are LED, are they legal in MN to use?

You can't put any artificial lights down in the water in MN, correct? Wouldn't the LED be considered an artificial light source in the water?

Depends on which CO you talk to.. I dont think you can fish with the lights on legally, but you can use the camera to look around legally.. Which is what I use my camera for while fishing at night. I just put it down there to see what the bottom content is and such. .I will use the camera to fish during the day time though with the lights off.

I guess I will have to give the DNR office a call before I purchase one.

That would be the main reason for me to purchase one, is to watch what is happening down below, and in hopes of capturing them on video coming in, biting, and you setting the hook on them. That would take the fun out of it if you had to turn the light off at night while fishing.

Seems like there is room for wiggling on this topic. The lights that you can buy to float over a hole I think is considered illegal cause its used to bring in plankton, baitfish, fish.Does the camera light have the same effect? And for that matter, wouldnt It be illegal then to use lanterns on Ice when night fishing?

This light would actually be down in the water, not up on top of the ice.

I have seen lights that are attached to a cord that can be lowered down the hole and it points light back up from the bottom. Those I know are illegal in MN.

I had my camera down one hole, and my partner had his Marcum down another hole at night. We both faced each others cameras towards each others, and I could definitely see his light at night. He could not see mine. Mine is one that I had purchased at Menards. I believe that it has an infra red on it.

I would have to say that because I could actually see his light that it would not be legal in MN.

I will just have to contact the DNR office with this question. I am not about to make that big of a purchase just to find out that I can't use it at night to watch my line when a fish comes in.
