98 stratus signal lights

Recommended Posts

I have a 98 stratus and the signal lights went out yesterday. I think it's the flasher because there are no lights. Everything else seems to work. I think it is the flasher but where is it located. I looked in the fuse box but didn't see any. Do you know if one bulb goes they all stop working? The signal lights on the instrument panel don't work either. Any suggestions would be great. KK

Do the four ways work>

It has a combination flasher that plugs into the back of the turn signal multi-function switch that is bolted to the steering column. It wouldn't surprise me if either is bad. Make sure you check fuses! On the newer cars if one bulb goes out that side will flash faster than the other.

You'll need remove the plastic covers (upper and lower) right behind the steering column. Once the covers are out of the way you'll see the bulk of the switch (the part that the turn signal lever is attached to. The Combo flasher is plugged into that. The fuse is in the power distribution box. its not impossible that the flasher is bad but I have replaced way more switches than flashers. Sometimes you can play around with the four way switch and wiggle the turn signal lever and get them to work. If thats the case I would be replacing the switch. The other dead giveaway is the left and right brake lights will not work but the center brake light will (only if the vehicle uses the same bulb for the turn signals and brake lights, which I think yours does)

better look at the fuses. there are 2 that could contribute to this problem. No.6 (20 amp) in the Power Dist Center. And No. 15 (10 amp) in the Junction Block. Look in the owners manual for more help on these for locations. Remember this, if you find a blown fuse, more than likely there is a reason, ie. something is shorted to ground somewhere.

Thanks for the advice guys. I got a switch and then found the fuse box under the hood. Sure enough a fuse was blown. I changed it and it did it again. I replaced the switch and the signals worked but when I put oon the 4 ways it popped the fuse again. Two things.... I can't remmeber if I disconnected the battery when I replaced the switch so I might haved shorted out the four ways or I might have a bad ground wire. I also replaced the flasher before all of this. Do you think I could have maybe screwed the flasher up during this process thus causing the 4 ways not to work but still have signals. KK
