slimey fish question

I was out on a local lake this weekend and caught some pretty nice size crappies. I was going to take a couple home for the pan but these guys were just so slimey. Kind of like a pike slime. What was the deal? Desease? Or was I just plane dumb and should of fried them?

I would see nothing wrong with them. Just run them under hot water when you get home for a few minutes, gets the slime down a lot. Works on pike as well.

The slime is common and not a problem other than the ick factor.

I have always heard that hot water on fresh fish or wild game is a big no-no.

The father-in-law told me to throw them in a plastic bag rather than on the ice and don't let them freeze solid to prevent the slime. Haven't tried it yet though.
