reprogramming the computer on a 99 Buick regal

The engine was replaced and bored out to a 4.0 I believe. Anyhow the check engine light has been on ever since than. Pretty much a weekend mechanic job. However, I'd like to get it running again, and get rid of it for cheap. It's a decent looking vehicle and just needs a little TLC, I was told the computer might have to be reprogrammed for the alterations that were done to it. Any truth to this??

What codes are in it lean? There are some places that will do custom programing to accomidate alterations but its more of a hit and miss, and it can get spendy unless you can have the vehicle there for them to run it then reprogram and retest!

I hear ya, the knock sensors have been coming up. And it's causing to run kind of rough when it warms up. At start it runs fine. I had it in a local shop and that's what they said is coming up.

see if you can post the actual codes (P0???) we can then give you a direction to go. give the 1st 10 digits of the vin to verify the vehicle.
