Question on Vantage Wiring (3 wires?)

huntingislife

Question

I am replacing my 24V transom mount TM with a Vantage. My old TM had a plug with red and black wires(+/-). The Vantage has a red, black, and yellow wire. It says to wire the red and black as normal and connect the yellow wire to the + of battery 1. Do I need to hook up the yellow? What is it for, is the TM calling for 12V somewhere? Thanks for the help.

and connect the yellow wire to the + of battery 1.

STOP NOW!

You are going to want to be very careful here. It's crucial you hook up to the correct battery for your 12 volt power. If done incorrectly you will FRY your Vantages board instantly.

The Positive terminal of the Negative battery that feeds your trolling Motor is 12 volts.

Get a volt or ohm meter and measure the voltage to be sure.

From the posistive posts.....Battery #2 in this diagram is 12 volts... battery #1 is 24 volts.
