Any good ideas for making a little shelf hingable and yet sturdy???

I am putting little shelfs by each hole and want to make them hingeable so that I can drop then out of the way to drill holes, but yet they must be sturdy.

I would use a piano hinge. You can cut them to what ever length thay you want. Very durable.

If you build the shelf out from the wall about 3/4"(with a 1x2), mount the hinge to the 1x2 and the shelf, then below the shelf, mount another 1x4 horizontal to the shelf on another hinge. The horizontal 1x4 will swing out under the shelf holding it into place. When you drill the holes, swing the support out and the shelf will drop down out of the way. Hope I described it well enough.

Hinge a rod or a square dowel on the bottom of the shelf that can prop against the wall yet fold out of the way. Or visa-versa.

Good ideas, but the big box lumber store sells the bracket that you want. It folds flat and when raised it locks into place. Costs about 3$ per bracket and can use one or two. Works great.
