"Boreals of the Arkola"

Happy Happy!........The boreal chickadees have arrived at the feeder on the Arkola road!....watched 2 of em feeding off and on this late afternoon....of course there were other birds at the station also........blackcaps,redpolls, a bazillion grey jays and about 8 pine grosbeaks........there were numerous redpolls at the Owl Ave stations also with a couple red breasted nuthatches....the birds are arriving!....

Looks like the deer are starting to "yard up"....

Awesome! I wonder just how many boreal chickadees live in the bog. I checked out Owl Ave yesterday for the hawk owl and headed up on up to Admiral. I saw some evening grosbeaks eating the seed on Arkola. I also found a little buck that curled up under a pine tree and died on Stickney Rd. Makes me wonder if it got hit by a car or had a bad winter. I noticed the house on Overton and Arkola must not be feeding the deer anymore and they always had quite the herd for years.

Nice photos Johnny. I dodn't see any deer during my visit and was surprised. In fact,I ddin't see any four-legged critters at all. I hope the hawk owl comes to visit you at the Owl Ave feeder. It was an unexpected highlight of my trip.

Thanks all!....I was going to go again this morning since the day is so bright and sunny but when I saw the temps at 30 below! .....Figured I'd wait till next saturday.....the smell of lasagna in the oven made up my mind for me.......
