Lake St. Joseph Fishing Reports (St Joes)

Recommended Posts

Ive never fished it personally. Heard alot about the lake. I do fly over the west end (Root Bay Area) lots during the summer heading to our fly ins north of it. From what I have heard its a fine lake. I would not worry about the fishing. Where are you thinking about going? Driving up to fish the east end places or thinking about fishing the west end fly in area?

fished there late june/early July and fishing was good. There is a very productive reef close to camp and the other nice thing is you can catch a lot of walleyes right off the dock at camp st. joespeh. I still like lac suel more, but it is definately a great lake.

It is an excellent fishery and you won't have any problem catching eyes in July. It is a special lake and has a tag system that ensures the fishing stays top notch. It is more of a true Canadian experience in my opinion, you don't have to look at houseboats all over the lake like Lac Seul. St Joe has alot more remote setting and is phenomenal fishery.

This is my try at posting this. I'm unsure what happened...anyhow, I am in the process of selecting an outpost for our family's fishing trip and considering Lake St. Joe and the outpost offered by Winonga Lodge. Please let me know if you have been there or to Lake St. Joe and advice that you can have regarding this location. Thanks in advance.

We've gone to Winoga's main camp for 16 years, I've also being to his other fly in camps in the winter ice fishing. They do a great job, and are great people. I've talked to groups of guys that have being to St. Joe and they've all said it was great. You can fly in, boat in, or D ick will bring you in on his big barge. Any other questions let me know I'll try to help.

I've been to Lake St. Joe the last two years. We stayed at Camp Lake St. Joe. The rates were very reasonable, and we had a great time. When we were there last time, the water was way down. The resort is good about letting you know where to travel when heading down the lake. We caught a lot of fish both years. The first year we went early and caught 150 northerns 30" and over. There were 8 of us. We caught quite a few over 40. Last summer, we went in June. We didn't get as many big northerns but we caught a lot of walleyes.

You can pretty much catch walleyes all day long. We're heading up in June again.

We ended up booking for the first week in July. I'm looking forward to this, however I must admit to being a bit overwhelmed with the massive water. I have never fished Las Seul, Eagle, LOW, etc...as I'm used to doing fly-ins on smaller canadian lakes.

Thanks for the insight.

I spent years guiding on Lake St.Joseph and it has some of the best Walleye fishing that you will find anywhere. The Pike fishing is awsome as well. The only thing about the fishing there is there are no monsters as a 30inch Walleye is rare and a Pike over 45inches is also rare. But as for numbers we once put 850 Walleye's in the boat in a single day!!!!!!! Also the Lake is very dangerous with rocks and shoals everywhere so be carefull.

You will be glad to know they got a ton of rain there the last 2 days. 35,000 hectors is a big, big fire. You should catch a ton of walleyes if they can get a handle on that fire. There was a resort up there on evacuation notice but I think the danger has passed--you might still have to deal with some smoke.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
