West of the Boarder cabin breakin..

Recommended Posts

What makes me upset most, of all the stuff taken, was loosing all the nice racks we had collected over the years of deer hunting with my Dad & now my son. One very nice chocolate brown, 11 point rack, I got 2 seasons ago, with my then 10 year old boy. He hunted the 1st weekend and the 2nd weekend with me and we had passed on 15 deer, 6 of them bucks. My son was up with me before light and we didn't come back in till dark. It was one of my most memorable hunts I've had. Teaching him some patients... When I left the Army in 89 I got a very nice ivory, heavy beamed, high tine 10, it was duck hunting weather & I was wet, cold and wanting to quit on that lastday. Then a little movement in the cattails & He pocked his head out of the swamp and all I could see was his head and rack.. Took careful aim and shot him in the head.. that warmed me up. I've got some pictures I'll try and post. I could really use the help of some of you out there. Could you please contact your local taxidermists and tell them to be on the lookout for 5 or 6 very nice whitetail racks. They are not caped. The 11 point has the skin removed from the base around the antlers, and the others all have hair on the bases. One 8 or 9 point is bleached out & attached to the full skull.

Thanks

Charles Anderson

where is you cabin located? in mn? it happens a lot here in the north. the local economies are pretty dismal, and most tourists have cabins with sleds, beer, atvs or guns. not only are the cabins in remote areas, but with no one there during the week, its a pretty easy target. i'm not trying to justify it, just a local perspective. too bad they made off with your antlers - stuff you don't just replace. tv's and booze can be replaced. good luck finding the scum.

I have a friend that makes table lamps out of deer horns....he pays $20-$40 bucks for a rack....and it doesn't have to be exceptional....

Only say that to let you know....they are worth money to the right person....still stinks though.

I used to hunt down there on my uncles farm, must be right in the same area Cedar Crest farm right on the river, just north of Belveiw. Best deer hunting around. In fact my brother lives down there I'll tell him to keep an eye out. It's the same as up here in WI very remote, no one around for miles. I hope they catch them. Good luck

I know this is late info, but it may help others. We were getting broken into 3 times a year. Never had anything in the cabin. Now, I have been getting checks from the WI dept of corrections for 2 years now. 3-18yr olds, broke in our cabin by Grantsburg. Now one is doing time in the big house (5th or 6th offense). The other went into the service, and they are watching the other. Video camera. Cost $150 bucks. Worked after a few bugs in setup, but got them all. They do have battery powered units too. I do not wonder if everything is ok now.

Littletroublemaker, how did you set up your video cam. I also have a remote cabin and get real worried this time of year. I have considered a video cam but how doesnt the bad guys see it and remove it and any tape. I have considered the fake security cams also. Losing the head mounts would really be tuff. I have thought of setting up the trail cam, but I do not think it would go unseen and if the flash went off-- well. I even leave an item or two out with hopes if it happens they will see this stuff and run quicker. We all would love to bust these low-lifes that do this. Feeling bad for fishduckdog. Larry

Yooper: First is to find the right setup. You can go to radio shak, or search the net. X10.com has cameras. You get what you pay for. The camera we have has infrared, and they all have flashlights, & usually 2 and more will break in. You will get them caught in the light. The first was some high school kids, which we could not get positive id, but we asked some kids to look at the clips and they knew who they were, but it would not hold up in court. It did get around in the school that they were caught on camera. They also will mention names, so get audio, color. We have power, so we set a timer on a light so it would turn on at 10:00 until 4:00 am. We modified a speaker so only the eye of the camera showed. Try to get the red sensor hiddened. We added warning signs stating that this property is under video surveillance this year. No problems at all. Word does get around locally. Last year they yanked the meter out, but did not break in the cabin. Never will understand why they would want a vcr or tv that barely works. 2 yrs ago we did have someone break-in that made the beds, and cleaned the cabin. Those I like. Hope this helps.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
