92 Camry Alternator

Recommended Posts

I just replaced the alternator on my 4 cyl camry. Now I have a battery draw that drains a fully charged battery in less then 4 hours. When I unplug the "new" alternator the draw goes away so I am wondering can an alternator drain a battery that fast or could it be the wires going to the alternator. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rick

Yes it can, but you may also have the ignition feed to it staying on as well. With the key in the off position see if there is power to the ignition power wire to the alt before condeming the alternator.

That didn't even cross my mind but good suggestion 4WE!

Speaking of draws, I had a monte carlo in again the other night. We know it has a draw, .240 amps, because we told him back in 07 when we replaced the battery the first time. They didn't want to pay for the diag so they have been jump starting and replacing batteries for the last couple of years (they would have been waaaaaay ahead paying the electrical diagnostic time). Turns out is was a trunk latch that had been jarred out of place causing the switch for the light to not fully disengage. A quick readjustment and everything was fine. Two years of monkeying around, countless jump starts, 4 batteries later, and a 5 minute fix took care of it.
