Anybody fishing the Park Rapids Legion Derby??

Just wondering if anybody was planning on fishing this derby this year? I heard they might not even have it because of thin ice, but after this recent cold snap I would have to think it would be a go.

the derby is still a go. the slush is froze now with 18in. ice

Umm...not sure about the slush being frozen? The jury is still out if the the lake will be safe. That is alot of snow to plow. That will be the next challenge.

as of today the tourny is still a go, i'm gonna be a first time contestant this year, but my family has been in it the past few years i guess, but it sounds like a blast and the prizes look amazing!!!!

It's definitely a go. Talked to Jerry Benham, the tournament chair yesterday. He found 20-22" of ice, no slush around the perimeter of the fishing area. However, when they ventured toward the center, they found about 4" of standing water. But they'll have the plows out in full force the wednesday before the event. Hopefully we'll have -80 the following Thursday and Friday, then 30's for Saturday. Just trying to be optimistic.

BTW-the minimum ice depth they need to hold the tournament is 16".
