Long Lake - Burnett County

Recommended Posts

This lake use to produce some nice slabs for me but I haven't had any luck here in the last couple years. I saw there was only 1 shack in the NE bay this year. Is anyone having luck out there this year. I've only caught crappies in the winter on this lake, where do they go in the Summer?

I've done well on the large mouths but have never caught a sm mouth on Des Moines. It's a very scenic lake and has been stocked with skis since the 50's. I've fished skis a few times on it but have not seen one yet. The bass are fun and you might even stumble across an eye or jumbo!

Any crappies left in Long!?!

My in-laws had a cabin on Des Moines for years and I fished it alot in the 80's. It is a very clear lake with deep growing weeds. I had my best luck (no suprise here) on overcast days and at night. I have caught a couple of smallies but they were rare. The walleyes were nice and usually caught them after dark trolling floating raps or casting around docks. There are some big crappies in there but I had a hard time catching numbers. The biggest muskie I've ever had on was on DesMoines and again at night. Was out in a 12 foot row boat with no net fishing walleyes when it hit.

Hope this helps,

Dave
