Hard starting auger

riverside

Question

Looking for some advice or tricks to starting my auger. I have a SM 2000 auger I got for xmas and it starts hard. I first choke unit after a couple pulls it will fire but quite, i put choke at 1/2 and pull again a few times and some times it will start and stay running, but if it don't I have to choke it again and then it is flooded. It takes a bunch of pulls to clean it out. Just wondering if something needs to be adjusted?

I know it's a new unit but I would try a new spark plug and make sure the gas tank vent is open prior to starting, mine always starts on the 1st or 2nd pull but I like to rest my thumb on the throttle as I'm starting it for the first time of the day and give it a tiny blip as its popping off, maybe that will work for you.

I have a SM Lazer Mag and it took me a few trips to figure out its "temperment", I do about exactly what you say above, but when it starts in the 1/2 throttle position, I quickly toggle from no choke to half and back/forth a few times to keep it running. Otherwise it usually will quit on it's own if I leave at 1/2 throttle. Another thing I've noticed is that if I crank the heat in the back of my SUV where my gear is, on my way to the lake, it seems to pull and start smoother than when it's still frozen.

same thing you have going on i had with my new mag 2000. first make sure vent is open and power on. put it to choke and give it 2 good pulls. even if it doesnt start throw it to full run and try a couple more pulls. works everytime with mine. 4 pulls max and im going. and if it does fire up in choke, throw it onto run right away.

I have the Lazermag and once it pops off on full choke (usually after 2 pulls) when cold then I swith the choke to 1/4 on and then usually stays running or if it really warm out 30 degrees then it usually works to take the choke off all the way and it stays running. Hope this helps
