Little Falls Flowage - St. Croix County

Recommended Posts

There seems to be minimal info on reports thru this site (especially in St Cr Cty). Eventhough I had little success, LFF is a small, but nice lake. It is accessable from Willow River State Park (which requires a pass). Its walk on only, no vehicles. With the use of a vexliar, I was able to see alot of fish off the bottom (15'). There were alot of small perch, but I did catch 2 nice 'gills, a keeper crappie, and a few that got off b4 I could get them through the hole. I threw everything back. Overall, pretty slow, but I think this lake could have potential for decent panfishing.
This may not help much, but it would be nice to hear reports from others who live in the area since there's not much for fishing options in St Cr Cty, unless you want to drive.
Thanks, good luck fishing.

Thanks for the report! I dont fish that way, but I know that a few of the FMers do. Hopefully your report can generate others in that area. BTW, welcome to fishing Minnesota! Yours and others posts and reports are greatly appreciated! smile.gif ... The "doldrums" of late winter have set in on most area lakes in central WI.. This past Wednesday I returned from a 5 day trip to Red and Winni in MN. The fishing was as to be expected, great! My friends are "twisting my arms" to head up there tommorrow for a few days......Oh the dilemmas!! shocked.gif

TommyGun, I used to live in Hudson and got to fish Little Falls winter and summer. Your right in thinking that the lake has potential. I've had good luck and no luck fishing it, but then that's fishing. There are alot of small perch in the area of the dam but you will catch some in the 10" range. The only crappies I caught were all in the summer, fishing off the dam. They were very high in the water column, fished them with a minnow 2' under the bobber. Most were around 10". Gills are abundant but I never got one over 8". I was just learning the lake when I moved and had planned to do alot more. I never ice fished it out on the main part of the lake, mostly concentrated on the dam area and the deeper water looking for perch and crappie. I was told there is a crib not far out from the boat landing and I did see people fishing that area. One thing I did find out the ice goes out very fast on that lake when it starts to thaw. The run off muddies it up and the current flow undercuts the ice. Thanks for the post, it's good to see someones fishing it. Had it to myself most of the times I was out there in the winter and you have to love that in the land of many people.

Fishing is Life.

Bodyman, thanks again! That is some great info. I will surely keep it mind next time I go out there. The few fish I caught had to be close to the crib area you were refering to. You're right, there's a lot of people in this area and not many fishing options. But I'll keep trying, and I'll post if I have any luck around the Hudson area.
Take Care.
