LX5 Battery?

I have the Marcom LX5 and I was wondering if anybody else had any problems with battery life? I fish with my two brothers up at LOW and they can fish almost the hole 3 day trip with one battery. They have FL12 -FL18. I get about 1 3/4 day. Is there a better battery out there that will last longer? I love my LX5, and this is an issue only one weekend a year. Just trying to make it a non issue. I do have a second battery for a backup. Last year I had a converter to plug into 12 volt, than plugged my LX5 and charged it on the trip from Red to LOW. Still had to go to the backup battery before my brothers.

I am faced with the same dellema. I bought an extra and have my aquaview battery going as spares. Last year on my LOTW trip my LX5 was new and I fished from 7 am to 4 pm and when I plugged it in the DCS said 40 percent. Before I plugged the DCS in it said 100 percent. After 4 hours of charging it was only up to 70 percent. I guess the LX5 is not bullet proof after all. I am doing a two day sleeper at LOTW and it is a gas house with no electricity.

My LX-5 has made 3 seperate 4 day trips to Lake of the Woods (sleeper) and only once has my battery failed on the final day. I do not run the LX-5 at night...once the sun goes down, I save all the power I can.

I did update to the new 2500 watts LX-5 and I will have to see if there is a difference on my upcoming trip.

This year I will also bring my converter/deep cycle to charge at night just in case. I'd hate to run out of juice, and I don't like to run the battery down to that low after so long.

I get about 16 hours max use out of my old LX battery (2000 watt) thats 2-3 years old. I'll see when the new one gets here(2500 watt) how long I get. When you push 5 times the power of a Vex with the Marcum you will lose some battry life. A fair trade off IMO. I just carry a couple spare battrys.

I know that Vex's come standard new with the 9amp batteries. Not sure if they last longer because of that or they just draw less power than an LX5. I was told that under the same conditions the 9amp will last longer than a 7amp (not sure how much).

If you want to do a quick test, switch batteries with your vex buddy and see if it makes a difference. Assuming it does, I would upgrade to the 9amp. I use to own an LX-3tc, and changing out the batteries is kinda of a pain.

You may also want to double check to make sure your charger is working properly. When I had to bring my LX-3tc for ducer issues, I commented that the battery/charger didn't seem to be working correctly ... Marcum replaced it.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
