Any berries or crabapples work great. If you want to buy larvae or waxworms from bait stores, they work too.

If you know of any folks with mountain ash or crabapple trees who don't care about the fruit, your wife can gather a bunch of the fruit and put it out on a tray feeder and that will help out the robins.

But robins in that part of the state in winter aren't uncommon, and they generally get through the winter on the fruits/berries I mentioned just fine as long as there are enough of them around.

A few days ago I saw 30 robins in my crabapple tree around 4:30 pm. They were gulping down the fruit. Several of them were on the ground picking up the dropped fruit. Grabbed my camera and started in.
