Fishing Grindstone lake in Northern WI

Recommended Posts

Better of going the extra 20 miles to round lake. buy a good map find the hinton bay access go out 1/4mile and fish finger bar. Or go west off the access to the point find 4-12 feet and fish. set up before dark an get off when its light out verry clear water. Keep the lights low. Grind stone is hard to fish! hit an miss.... Musky bay on LCO is great for Northerns an panfish in the day. Have fun

I have fished Grindstone multiple times. Summer and winter (thanks to a friend of mine). Very clear lake. daytime = good sized perch. If you want walleyes, setup just before dark. Weedline maxes out at about 16-18 feet. FISH THE WEEDLINES! Fish the edges of those or deep breaks. This summer, we found eyes on 25 foot humps off 30 foot of water. I know the lake has a pretty strick slot limit. Read the WI regs. Good luck. Nice fish in Grindstone..

I live in Hayward, and am about 99.9% sure that no resorts around here offer sleeper houses. You may have better luck by checking with Pastika's, a local tackle shop in town. Their number is 715-634-4466. This area (Hayward) isn't like LOW or Mille Lacs ... doesn't have a tourist draw of Winter fishing. OK by me though, less is more if you know what I mean.

Thanks! I know what you mean! So what do you think, then. Round or Grindstone, maybe Sis? We just want to get over some eye's. We have been going up every year for 10 or so years and have never caught an eye throught the ice. HELP!! Please.

I would probably say Round right now, the bite on Grindstone's Center Bar has slowed down. Still a few here and there, but the weed edge is dying, hence the fish are starting to re-locate. Round is putting up a few fish too ...you'll need to look for some good spots. Both of these lakes have a fairly decent population of Perch, which are what the 'eyes key on this time of year. A four-inch perch makes a meal that lasts awhile these days, so don't expect numbers like 1st ice. Find the perch, walleyes should not be far behind.
