Dale08
Last day of pheasant season has come and gone and what a day. Started out slow for my buddy and his lab and me and my shorthair then about 11:00 it started to look up. We got 4 birds in a matter of a quater mile and seen well over 50 more in that area. Mostly hens which I love to see and from the looks of it with good wheater this next year we should have a good hatch again. But we thought we would try your luck for our last two in some heavy cattails. we no longer got in the and me shorthair locked up and out came 5 roosters. I got one and my buddy dropped the last one. When I got to mine I noticed it was a good size bird. Didn't think to much of it right away I was just happy to be done hunting through all that heavy snow and cold wind. Then when we got back to the house to clean them then I noticed how much bigger he was than they other ones. So on the last day of pheasant hunting this year we finished of the year like we started by filling out and I got my bird to finally put on the wall. What a great season and now to concentrate on the ice fishing!!!
ac777
Good job Dale, Late season success is much more rewarding! It was a good season. I went out today also but the birds were even jumpier than before. I missed the one chance I had, and I was wishing I had snow shoes. Last week was much better for us, we kind of had them patterned, but with the short warm spree this last week it kinda messed up our pattern. Despite all the bad reports from people, I thought it was still a good year. The tougher conditions sure does separate the hard cores from the wannabes though as I saw very few hunters the last few weeks.
