Truck Through on Miller's Bay

Recommended Posts

While fishing on Little Miller's this morning shortly before noon we heard a loud crack looked out to see this.

We left before they had it pulled out, but they had been trying to get it out for nearly two hours when we decided to leave. We found anywhere from 6-14" of ice where we were. He was lucky to fall through where he did another 10' in either direction and the whole truck would have gone in. He hit the point and was only in 1-2' of water and only about 5-6" of ice. If you are travelling on Miller's in the future remember there is a hole directly off the end of the where the should never be considered safe in the first place.

Where exactly in Millers Bay did this happen. By the canal, out towards main lake? Sure would like to know more of exact area. Been there on my quad a couple times this week, and found no ice this thin. Judging by the pic, looks like close to access off Oak street.

We were out there again today and had worse luck than yesterday. There was ALOT of traffic we seen alot fewer fish and the quality was way down.

The spot where he went through is IMO poorly marked. They set out an orange reflective triangle on the ice to mark the spot. There are people driving everywhere else in the bay including around the main point over toward the entrance to the canals.

Yep unfortunately people are like sheep where one goes there have to be a whole flock. This guy just happened to be the one who got lost and hit the wrong spot. He drove over the same spot where he fell through on the way out he just had worse luck the second time.

Is there a fine for dropping a truck in the lake even if It isn't submerged?

Definitely a rough one out there.

Judging by the amount of traffic Spirit seems to be the place to be right now. Emerson's seems a little slow but there are fish there to be caught with the Harbor View tourny tomorrow I would avoid Little E unless you like a crowd of poeple fishing for prize money. Miller's is very hit or miss and due to the high traffic seems to have shut the fish down and moved them out of Little Millers. there were a few people on Smith's yesterday but after seeing no fish out there last week things would have to improve drastically before I make it out there again.

Im torn right now between the Lake Sarah get together and chasing some perch around on Spirit tomorrow.

Get togethers are definitely a good time and a great chance to meet people and put faces to screen names. The weather has me wondering which way to go. I have yet to see any radar images. I am just a little frustrated by the fish down there right now. They are predicting 2-4" for Sarah and an ENE wind. With only a trace for the IGL.

You could buy the Fishing HotSpots maps they have the landings marked along with some somewhat helpful info on fishing in certain locations or you could get a GPS with a map chip to my knowledge there isn't anything on the DNR HSOforum but you could check for yourself to make sure.

Your right about the fishing here, its been odd all year. Look at our scouting trip, no weeds where there should have been unfishable weeds. Smiths with no fish in it ect. Hope we can hit a bite again tomarrow or if we just had a 1 day fluke.

Access at all the ramps, Gull Point, Oak st to get on Millers ( you already knew that 1 LOL) Pikes Point if you want to climb the hill back up. South end of the Emerson Campground. Church Camp for Lil Emerson ( need a parking permit I think) Other places are hard to explain without taking you there, like the access to Haywards.

Good luck with the access to Haywards I know my way around the lakes and still have a little trouble with that one.

We checked a couple spots on the south end of Spirit yesterday for weeds and couldn't find anything standing tall or thick enough to hold any fish. So much for getting off the beaten path.

No weeds on the south end either?? there was tons earlier in the year last I was on there trolling. But then again we abandon the weeds and went deep Thursday and it payed off. If you get out on the break from the pumphouse on the south end in 16-18' we have done well on the perch and a few eyes before in years past and in open water later in the season. There is a submerged rock reef out there but those coords are on my old GPS. I wonder if Reeds or Red nose has anything? It would be a hike but you never know.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
