piker007
So I have a 2002 polaris sportsman 700 and when I flip the AWD switch to turn 4x4 on the lights and speedo dim the shut off and the AWD doesnt work. The light on the AWD switch doesnt even come on. Has anyone had this problem or heard how to fix it? I was told it was the switch but dont wanna buy a new one if it could be somthing cheaper. Dave S
If your lights dim, then shut off, it sounds like you have a short somewhere.Another thing to check is the contactor. It's in the small black box on the bottom of your shift lever.I'll see if I can find a schematic.
Dave S
I have to take back what I said about the location of the switch. I was thinking of the older SP500 shifter. I think your switch will be #66 (6-pin rotary switch). Make sure all connections are good. The cost is just over $65 for a new one.
Roofer
Short somewhere. Read about a similar situation on another forum. Turned out to be a loose wire after adding something electrical with those inline clips (not sure what the actual name is). Check for loose wire in the pod before you buy anything. Caleb S
I agree with Roofer (we finally agree on something! ). Sounds like a short somewhere. I don't know if a bad switch will give the same symptoms of short though.
