Fox Skin

Picked off a Red Fox tonite with my muzzleloader. Had not skinned a varmit for over 30 years. Didn't make to many holes in the Fur. Anyway, just want to eventually hang it in the shack. Have it laid out-what should I put on the skin to dry it out? I know when we do Turkey mounts we use Baking Soda & let it sit in the garage rafters for several months. Or will it stink forever?

Also--what about the bone in the tail--will that dry out? Leave it in?

take out the bone in the tail and take it to a taxadermist... thats how i do mine it only cost like thirty bucks to get somthing like that tanned i think

Use borax or pickling salt to dry it out. You should split pull the bone out of the tail. Not that hard to do yourself.

I did my own turkey fan with the borax and it only took a couple weeks till ready.
