Has anyone planted this in the Metro area? Was it successful?

Yes. It was not successful. I think it isn't really hardy up here. Sort of looked lousey also.

Also doesn't green up until late in spring. Saw many lawns in Atlanta, GA that were still brown in April.

Yup, tried it at the Mpls house. Seemed ok at first but never came back the next spring. Like Tom7227 mentioned, I don't think it is hardy enough for the Minnesota winters.
