Barbless hook question?

When fishing in waters requiring barbless hooks, is crimping the barb down with a needlenose or pliers considered "barbless", or do you actually have to file it off?

Crimp and your good at least that was how they wanted it in manitoba when I fished there. Squeeze down the barb so that when you run your finger across it it won't catch your skin.

And if ya want your bait to stay on, cut 1/8th inch long pieces of rubberband and put one on your hook after the bait. works great.
