When to seed?

I moved into a different house last year and want to get my front yard looking a little better.

My front yard has 2 large maple trees. The grass is mostly dead in the front yard. The front yard has shade most of the day. There seems to be a decent amount of dirt -not clay.

I picked up some shade grass seed and am wondering when I should put down the new seed?

Prep for the ground prior to doing it?

The ground is really dry right now, should I water it prior to seeding to help the seed take?

Anything else to help?

Wife mows, so I want to keep her busy for another 10 minutes a week

Personally I'd wait about 2 to 3 more weeks. Wait till the night time tempts start getting lower and the day time average start dropping below 80.
