01 90hp Johnson control

Single lever flush mount shifter won't move out of neutral. Throttle and shifter work fine at the motor. When i removed the piece that the control is mounted to I was able to get the lever to move by pushing in a ball bearing to release it. Anyone Familiar with this? I couldn't find a diagram. I'm wondering if Something is broken, worn out, or maybe just need to be adjusted.

There were times before it quit working completely that it took a few tries to get it to shift. I have looked for hours for any thing similar on the web. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Try putting a little grease on the detent ball. Sounds like that is your sticking point.
