Retrofitting a generator to a small outboard

If form is not important but function is paramount, and it has to be done on the thinnest of shoestring budgets, how would you go about adding charging capacity to a small Johnson outboard?

purchasing a new outboard with the electrics built in already is not a viable option for budgetary reasons.

"redneck solutions" are perfectly acceptable here...

How small?

I'm guessing it doesn't have electric start?

You could see how much a electric start kit would run, or get a hold of a stator and rectifier and the neccesary wiring to do it.
