Steelies on the North shore

Up here in Nipigon the Steelhead run is in full swing. 3 anglers landed over 40 bows in one river. The numbers are good so far. The smelts are running as well. There was a smelt fisherman on the weekend who caught a 4lb steelhead in his dip net. giddy up!!!

Thats awesome news. I got hooked on Steelie fishing during my time in NE Ohio, fishing the Rocky and Chagrin rivers outside of Cleveland.

What's the average size of the steelies, and whats the color?

The average size is 20" and getting one 30" is rare. The guys that landed40 in one river got a 25". They are silvery in color when they first come up from Superior but quickly darken up with green hues and some pink

the run is almost done in the stretch around duluth. If you want fish you are going to have to go north. The smelt are done in duluth as well.
