muskiechaser
Has anyone ever fished Pipestone/Clearwater Lake, Canyon Lake or Wabigoon Lake? I was looking at a trip up to this area for walleye and muskie, just wondering if anyone has had any luck on any of these lakes. Other ideas? Trying to keep the trip as inexpensive as possible. Thanks
youngie22
I fished wabigoon a few times... I'm sure you checked the canada thread, they should have info on the others. I know L&M, who frequents this site, lives on wabigoon and may have some good info on the other lakes. THere are a ton of good locations around there. Do you want to rent a cabin, stay at a lodge, camp at a resort or campground? What would you like to target? What time of year? Other good lakes... Eagle, basket, rugby, and many others! Wallyeyes
Not sure what inexpensive means to you but we go a little father into Canada to Lac Seul. Last year the trip was just over $400 per guy, for six guys for Wed.-Sun. I expect it will cost more this year but, can you really put a price on catching 800 (yes, we keep count) walleye, plus numerous other bonus fish in three full days of fishing between 6 guys? Heck it could have been alot more than that but, we went for size, not numbers on the last day. To me, it's a very fair price for that high quality of fishing. 2iceman
I have fished Wabigoon for the past 7 years. Incredible perch walleye, pike and muskie fishing. We have stayed at a resort located in Bonny Bay on Wabigoon for the last 4 years, every year gets better. We probaly catch easily over 100 walleye a day and the last 2 years have caught in our group a 31" walleye, which are still swimmin out there. The pike are huge and this lake is rated one of the best muskie lakes out there. There is a reason the PWT went there last year and will be there this year again. Resort owners Len and Nancy will take care of you. And if you want to do a little Lake trout fishing they will take you over to thunder for some action. This trip is so inexpensive, guys in our group don't even bring there rigs up because it's cheaper to rent them then pay the gas to hall them up. Very nice cabins and boats with 4 stroke 50's on them.
Fish Flu
When's your recommended times to go on this trip to this lake? spring or fall? do you have a resort name?
2iceman
I go in the spring, actually I am heading up there on May 30th for a week. The resort name is Davis' Bonny Bay Resort and RV camp. We will catch a lot of walleyes and depending on the water temp we catch a lot of 34" to 40" pike and there are huge muskies in this lake. I would say if you are going after muskies I would wait till fall, but you will catch them in the spring also. I have been trying to make another trip up there just for that, I guess it is just crazy. There is a big muskie tourney in June and they catch a lot of them. Highly recommend this resort, they take care of there customers. Have stayed at other resorts on the lake and this one is the best. If you go into sportsmans warehouse in blaine/coon rapids I do believe they have a flyer there in the fishing department ohterwise the HSOforum is great with many photos of what we catch up there.
