Catmendo
This old warf sits just a couple hundred yards in from Lake Winnipeg along the west bank of the Red River. It was constructed just over 100 years ago by the Department of Public Works Canada (DPW). It's main purpose was to accommodate a large cutter-suction dredge. The dredge was used to keep the navigational channel leading out of the Red onto Lake Winnipeg open. DPW decided that it was no longer financially feasible to continue on with the age old dredging practice and has since put a hault on the proceedings. One thing for sure, if DPW even wants to resume dredging, they'll have to tear down and rebuild a new warf!
