CNCMike
So I have never fished for trout in my life time but am thinking that since I live in the Crosby area which is surrounded by trout lakes (mine pits) I might give it a try this year. What do I need to know? I won't be fly fishing, as I have no clue how. I will be using standard fare gear. Any tips, tricks, hints etc you guys could give me so I stand a chance of actually catching one or two?I don't need any exact locations and such, just basic tips like depth, bait types, and so on.Thanks in advance. CNCMike
Really? I wouldn't have guessed. So shallow swimming lures are good? Cool. I use a ton of them on the river for smallies. What kind of depths should I be trying? Shallow areas? Mud, rock, weeds? How small are you talking, BTW?
maddowg1192000
CNC Mike anytime after opener(even opening weekend) I am game on fishing the pits for some trout just let me know. Otherwise I recomend small mepps spinners, corn on a hook with a float, or my favorite berkley powerbait trout dough rolled into a ball around a small trout hook(size 10 i think) with a heavy sinker about 18-24 inches up the line and wait for a strike. dakotakid31
I am not an avid trout fisherman by no means but when the kids want to catch fish right and left we take em to a trout lake by our cabin north of Crosby and that is what they use. I used them up on a lake by the BW last year with the same results. Bro in law caught some nice rainbows in one of those mines and i think he was using countdowns-orange ones. So there is my limited knowledge of trout.
john.wells
Just head over to any freshly stocked pit and troll around in any dang depth with a countdown. You will limit out in about an hour. Nothing big will bite, but 8 to 12 inch trout smoke up nice.
CNCMike
Thanks guys. Kind of sad when you think about it. I was raised in the area. Partied, fished and hunted the area for 30+ years, and not once tried trout fishing. Thanks for the tips. At least now I won't be going out there totally blind! Mmmm....Smoked trout.... Now that sounds tasty.I just might take you up on the offer Cory. Thanks
