Page File Usage History

Scott M

Question

Need some computer nerd help here! \:\)

My page file usage history is really running high, like 1.86 gigs and near the top of the chart on the performance tab of my windows task manager. CPU Usage is low. Why would this be? I dumped my temporary files and am running only a couple apps.

download and run CC Cleaner and run that. First time it will take a couple of minutes. A lot of programs that update them selves download zipped files and create a temp windows file to extract them. The ones that are not written well will not get rid of that zip file when it is done with it. This is one of the many things that can clutter your computer.

Also try downloading a spyware remover like adaware or spybot. If you page file is running that high you have some things running and residing in memory.

You can also go to start, run, and key in msconfig. This will bring up the system config utility. Go to the tab on the far right hand side, start up, this is a list of apps that start when your PC fires up. About the only thing you really, really need to have start up is you anti virus and a few utilities, most of the rest can be started as you need them. If you uncheck them and then restart you will get a much cleaner running PC. If there are things you need to have running you can go back in and check them to start at boot up.
