A Reel Question - ABU 7000

Hi,

Looking real hard at purchasing a ABU 7000i for pulling the big stuff. 4.1:1 ratio, big handel etc, and i can get in a left hand retrieve very cool for me. Here is the question, instead of bearings the specs say a sealed brass bushing. What are the +/- of this. From my raised on a farm days of baling wire and cutting torch repairs, a sealed bushing makes more sense, should last longer right? But maybe not as smooth? Any folks out there with ABU 7000 experience please chim in. Thanks

All I can say is that I own two of these reels with the power handles and I'm very happy with thier performance.

Hey Jay

Your farm boy instincts are right on I know half a dozen guys who will tell you that the bushing model 7000s last longer than the bearing models, and they stay smoother longer to boot. Personally, I have some 7000Bs with bushings from the late 1980s that are still going strong. I own both, and especially when you're casting big baits, I sincerely doubt you could find much difference in performance using them side by side. Get the bushing model - utterly insignificant performance difference, probably better longevity, and $40 or so cheaper. No brainer...
