A Reel Question - ABU 7000

Hi,

Looking real hard at purchasing a ABU 7000i for pulling the big stuff. 4.1:1 ratio, big handel etc, and i can get in a left hand retrieve very cool for me. Here is the question, instead of bearings the specs say a sealed brass bushing. What are the +/- of this. From my raised on a farm days of baling wire and cutting torch repairs, a sealed bushing makes more sense, should last longer right? But maybe not as smooth? Any folks out there with ABU 7000 experience please chim in. Thanks

Jay

Hey Jay

Your farm boy instincts are right on \:\) I know half a dozen guys who will tell you that the bushing model 7000s last longer than the bearing models, and they stay smoother longer to boot. Personally, I have some 7000Bs with bushings from the late 1980s that are still going strong. I own both, and especially when you're casting big baits, I sincerely doubt you could find much difference in performance using them side by side. Get the bushing model - utterly insignificant performance difference, probably better longevity, and $40 or so cheaper. No brainer...

Hey - I think my dad roped me into giving a fishing seminar for kids at the Clay Co fair this summer \:\)

Cheers,

Rob
