CodyDawg
Headed up there this year for the first time. Used to do the Ontario thing for the last 20 years, but we are gonna try Manitoba this time. Any info would really be appreciated, but especially maps. At the sportshow, I talked to Canada Map Sales and they said that there is no depth/contour maps for this lake. Anyone know of any? Thanks in advance.
fishinlarry
I would love some info also. I have been hearing about the fabulous northern pike fishing and thinking of going up there this summer also.
baitcaster
I go to Cross Bay on Cedar Lake for two weeks each summer. A week in June and a week in July. I have not found any depth contour maps whatsoever. I do have a navionics chip that helps, but that is it. Cedar Lake is big water. I usually put on 300-350 miles on my rig each week that I am up there. Les and Maggie at Moak Lodge may be able to help you out. Great people. CodyDawg
Fantastic! I found someone who has been there. Does the navionics chip have depth or just blue where there is water and green where there is land? Why so many miles? What do you primarily fish for? How is the wally fishin'? We have been going to Lac Seul for the last 20 years, so we expect a drop off in the walleye fishing, but hopefully an uptick in the pike fishing. Does this jive with what you have seen? We will be up there June 6-12. Oh, and we are from Alex as well, what a koinkydink.
baitcaster
I put miles on to find the fish. Like I said it is BIG rough water. I have some spots that I regulary have fished over the years and some of the spots that have been productive for me are 8-10 miles apart. I have had great walleye fishing where we catch 100 a day and they range from 17 -27 inchers. Where there location is depends on water temp. and if they running much water through the dam. Have caught many many many northerns over 40 inches in the past 5 years. It is a fabulous fishery. This body of water can be very dangerous as it is a reservoir and it still has deadheads sticking up in 17 feet of water. Couple that with 3-5 foot rollers you can't see them very well or at all. I am up there from June 6-12 as well. I go up the first week of July also. Totally different at that time of the year.
baitcaster
The Navionics chip does have some contour lines , but no depths associated with it. Just where some depth changes are. Like where the main channel is located.
CodyDawg
Well we will be up there at the same time. That is cool. Well I feel a little better about the walleye fishing then. If you get a chance, send me an email at [email protected] as I would like to ask you a few more questions. Thanks!
bigtimeelectric
the best you can do for a map is buy a satellite photo from moak lodge. I agree this lake is excellent and has a lot of potential to catch large fish. I fished it for 5 years without issue but I was always very nervous when I was underway especially with wind..I have changed and now go to lac seul but still would go back to cross bay, problem is finding enough buddies to go twice or three times..haha I could live there...god bless canada! Jackfish41
Let me know how the trips went. A buddy I know just got back and hooked a 45" Pike and lost what he says was a "close to 50 inch fish". Said the walleye were pretty hot too, and also said the water level was extremely low makin a dangerous body of water even worse. I've gone to cross bay every summer for the past 7 years, it's by far the best week out of my year. Got a trip planned late August and hope to squeeze in a quick one in July. Hope your first experience was a good one.
