Christopher Quast
I have a very tight budget to use on painting my boat according to my wife so I would like to know some cheaper alternatives to marine grade paint that will work for me Thanks
mr walleye
Look up Diamond Vogel Paints,in there industrial coatings they have a product called PinnAcle,it is a polyurethane 2 part paint that has a wet look to it when dry,it looks real sharp, if you want the cheap colors its about $50 a gallon, that's enough to do two boats unless you also do your trailer to match, you will want to spray it, its the only way to get a good finishpick up a cheap spray gun and borrow a compressor or rent one if you have to,as for prep if the old paint is on good just scuff with red scotch brite pads and clean with acetone or painter alcoholif its on bare metal scuff and clean then prime befor painting.they have a primer for aluminium just tell them what you are doing,if you take your time and do all the prep work good, it will come out nice. Steve Bakken
also check out the thread on painting a duck boat. same process as yours would be, just a different topcoat. The key is in using a primer, and the right primer to get all of your hard-earned paintwork to stay on the boat.
