reel adventures! Tips or advice

Depends on the Age of your son. Don't know what ReelAdventures is but I have a 4yr old boy and I bring along some snacks and juice, extra gloves and socks, some plastic grocery bags to wrap around his liners of his boots and to haul things, a propane heater if the temp/wind warrant it. and some form of extra entertainment be it an underwater camera or a sled. Between catching small bluegills, watching the lines on my flasher, eating snacks and scooping out ice chunks he repeatedly puts back into the holes, I can usually keep him out on the ice for 2-3 hours in our portable.

Don't plan on doing much fishing yourself unless your son is old enough to bait a hook and operate a reel. I usually put out a dead stick for myself and get caught up in helping and teaching my son. Make the experience entertaining for him and it will be entertain for you. Afterall this is good quality bonding time for you and your son.

When your son is ready to call it quits don't try to squeeze another hour or two out of it. Always leave the fishing experience on a positive note and your son (or daughter) will want to do it again and again with you. When I was in grade school, use to love going down to the farm creek and catching fish. But one summer vacation of 3 days straight of trying and not catching any Montana Trout pretty much made me not want to fish anymore. Didn't pick up a pole again til I was in high school.

So take it at your kids pace and don't force it. As long as they are having fun, you'll be having fun too.
