What is the best camera for between $4-500?

We need the long version. What are you going to be shooting? Are you looking for a pocket camera or a larger P&S? If you give us more information I'm sure someone could give you some help on this.

nothing to the degree of professional photography. Just general stuff such as vacation, kids sporting events, trail rides. But with possiblity of zooming in for objects at a distance.

I'm also hoping to get a good shot of a turkey this spring.

I like the Sony H3 I think it is. It's got a lot of zoom and a lot of SLR type features. It's a prosumer camera which means it's one of the bigger point and shoots. I know that others really like some of the Canons and Fujis out there.
