crappace
I have a ton of songs on my iPod. Somehow 3/4s of them were erased from my computer. Now if I sync it they will be lost. Is there a way to transfer all my songs from the iPod to the computer??
0 jigging-matt
I believe you can do it. Make sure before you hook it up that you have your settings so that you manually manage your music. That way it will not sync, and remove the songs from the ipod.
0 hoggs222
Another Ipod ?....I have a boatload of songs on my external hard drive. Is there any way that I can have Itunes automatically update when I add new songs to the external? I've tried searching for answers online, but I cannot find anything. 0 TRITC
There are a bunch of freeware apps that will download songs from your ipod to your pc and then into itunes. Like was said above though be sure to have auto-synch turned off (I'm not sure why anybody would want that on). For the freeware apps just use your favorite search engine for "download songs from ipod to pc" and you should get a good list.Hoggs,You can just drag and drop songs from your hard drive to itunes. Just open the folder that contains the songs on your hard drive in Windows Explorer (assuming Windows) and then highlight all the songs and drag them to your Music folder in itunes and drop them.Hope that helps.TRITC

If the songs are still listed in I-tunes they won't be lost when syncing even though there not on your computer anymore.

Yes just make sure the external HD is connected and you have the New songs loaded into I-tunes.
0 hoggs222
My external is always connected. How do I get Itunes to automatically update when I add new songs to the external. I could manually update all, but then don't I duplicate them?
0 PierBridge
No you don't duplicate them in other words they won't be copied to your computer from your external HD which you are trying to avoid to save space on your PC I presume.
0 lawdog
OK, sounds like we have some I-pod pros here! My two kids have I-pods and very different music tastes. Can you set up different libraries so the 15 year old boys songs don't overfill the littel I-pod shuffle for the 8 year old girl who wants Hannah Montana instead of whatever garbage the boy listens too????PS: Sorry to hi-jack the thread... 0 jigging-matt
Lawdog, just make sure that you have I-tunes set up to manually manage your music. Then after they download the songs you just manually drag them over to their i-pod. Wife and I both have our I-pods and we have both have different tastes in music. Just set up different folders for each kid to put their music in.
0 TRITC
hoggs,Not sure why you have your music on your HD and in itunes; you are taking up double the space. If you have some reasons then forget I said that.Yes you can manually synch your HD songs to itunes and when itunes runs into the first duplicate file it will ask you if you want to skip or replace, choose the one you want.law,Like Matt said just set up different folders; itunes calls them Playlists. Then you can drag and drop the songs you want from the library music folder to whichever playlist you want.

No we are not taking up double space using an external HD I-Tunes doesn't make a copy of the music from the Hard Drive unless you go into preferences and check "make a copy of music" having our music on an External HD does a couple things one it saves space on the laptop I have 175 gigs of music and my laptop is only 60gigs and some people are using older computers with smaller Hard Drives so an External is a must......and if someone else wants some of my music you can just hook up the External to there PC. 0 hoggs222
Sorry, I'll clear it up... I only have the songs on my external. For some reason, my songs are doubling up in itunes. I'll have 2 or 3 of the same song for multiple cds in itunes
