i am going to build a custom sled to hold my suitcase ice house and i was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy some cheap skiis

I've gotten some at a goodwill and salvation army stores usually for $5 a set. I've also picked up some for free when the town i live in has a free garbage pickup day for large items but thats usually in the fall.

Yard sales also are a great place to find them. If you live near a ski area maybe a shop near there has cracked/broken ones that would work when cut short.

I've been by the Maple Grove Goodwill and they have about 5 pair of old skiis that would work great. I think they were going for $9.99 or something like that. I use them on my house and they work great. Better than humping a tub.

yep goodwill is the best place to start they usually have lots of skis, otherwise in spring garage sales are another good place.

i am going to do the same thing. if you cant find any there check hsolist, they always have people selling them for $5-$15.

I just built one last summer and would say to use water skis not snow skis. They are wider and stronger so they slide on top of the snow better.

Nagorski, did you use waterskis? I would think the snow skis, because of their base, would glide better on the snow. Admittedly, mine, with snow skis can get a little tough in deep snow but I would think the waterskis wouls also plow more in deep snow. I have no idea, just curious.

I think the waterski idea is pretty ingenius- I would think snow skis would work better on hardpack/ice and the waterskis would work great in snow as they "float" better.

Anyone have any pics of their finished products? I have the wood and ski's, just need to figure out what I want to do

I don't have any pictures but i had a buddy weld up a frame from 1 inch aluminum and just lay my shappell across that. It gets the whole thing up off the snow and makes it easier draging. I had used 1 inch pvc for a frame for a few years but it would occasionally crack in real cold weather. So far the aluminum has worked great plus its lighter. I actually used aluminum from hospital walkers and boat boarding ladders i got at flea markets for $1 each so its also cheap if you know someone who can weld aluminum.

I also used the steps from the ladders to hold the whole thing together. I sawed around the hole part and then bolted that to the skis. The aluminum then fits right back into the hole.
