Mouth Call advice / help

So, I was gonna start practicing with my diaphram calls, and found they are mostly all dried up and stuck together. I definetly need some new ones.

My question is, what brands of calls do you prefer, and how do you keep them so they don't turn to junk between use?

In the past I've rinsed mine with clean water at the end of the season and gently stuck a couple tooth picks between the reeds to prevent them from drying together. And other years I've just had to peel the reeds apart at the beginning of the season and moisten them well. They seemed to still work decent enough.

Couple of ways to keep them in decent shape. Rinse in clean water, (some folks use mouthwash) between uses. At the end of the season rinse again and put in a plastic baggie in the freezer until next spring. Thaw out and the should be in pretty good shape lasting a few seasons anyways.

There's a product out there called Diaphresh, which separates the reeds and stores all your mouth calls in a provided cleaning/storage solution.

That said, I've never been a fan of separating the reeds during storage or otherwise. I started doing that years ago and ended up ruining far too many good calls. Guess I'm not finesse enough \:\)

Instead, I rinse off my calls at season's end, dry on a paper towel, and dry store in my cabinet.

Keeping calls for more than a few years is a problem for me anyway. Not because of the latex either. Mostly because I have the thing in my mouth during most, if not all, of the hunt, and the tape surrounding the frame gets so chewed up and ragged, that it doesn't stop air from flowing around the call, rather than across the reeds. I get two seasons out of my primarily used mouth calls.

Put the call in while walking out to where you'll hunt. It softens up and re-separates the latex most often.
