Flasher Upgrade???

I have an older Lowrance 2330 Flasher. I haven't used it ice fishing and I'm wondering if anyone has and if so will it detect your ice fishing jigs going down.

If it does I realize it doesn't have the fancy three color models of the Vexilars and the Marcums. Should I consider upgrading?

The other questions I have is if Cost is an issue I'm wondering if picking up an FL8 is a better idea and hopefully purchasing a higher end model next year. If seen some of the cheaper Marcums VX1 and I'm wondering if I should mix marcums and Vexilars with my fishing buddies.

Wolfpack- Welcome to FM, great to have you with us... I am not familiar with. If I had to guess though, you may have some troubles picking up a small jig as its not really designed to do as such... If you have the expendable income, I would upgrade.. there are a ton of lower priced units on the market now.. Marcums LX-1 you can usually find right around $200 along with the Nature Vision Showdown.. also $200... Vex FL-8's you can usually pick them up somewhat cheep as well..

Another option, a good one.. keep your eyes on the used stuff for sale page.. maybe pick up someones used item.. it would still be an upgrade for you.

You can also check craiglist and hsolist, and outher websites where guys are selling used fish finders as well if you want to get a deal. but buyer beware is my advice. you can as ezily find a good deal and get a great product as well as getting something that was not quite it was advertised as.

I'm not familiar with the Lowrance flasher. Here's the scoop on the FL-8 or VX-1, both are great flashers. I have one of each. I bought the FL-8 used a couple of years ago from the for sale forum on FM. I've used it for years and it keeps on chuggin along and does a great job. I started using the Marcum VX-1 this year. My personal preferance is to go with the VX-1 just because it has bottom zoom. For the record it's a bit of an unfair comparison as my VX-1 is new and my FL-8 is quite old.

They are both entry level flashers, but will last the duration of your ice fishing career. Keep an eye on the for sale forum as guys will sell the ones they have as they upgrade. That's an excellent way to get a flasher at a good price.

Good luck with your purchase. Bottom line is either flasher will help you ice more fish.

I'm not familiar with Lowrance models, but I heard that typically lowrance units with the flasher mode (for veritical jigging) should show your jigs. I've haven't seen it for myself.
