edgeucator
i have a question for you musky hunters out there. i have always been huge on catching northern, i have a friend that is huge into muskie, but i have never even seen one moved much less boated one in minnesota. hes from iowa and fish's okaboji all the time, i am wondering what lakes in minnesota are good musky lakes im having a hard time getting into it. i dont see the point of casting a heavy lure a billion times and not even see a fish. and info would be greatly appriciated. thanks
setterguy
There are plenty of good muskie lakes in MN, it all depends on which part of the state you want to fish. For you it looks like French would be the closest. It does have nice fish but does get a lot of pressure because of the lack of Muskie water south of the cities. And you don't understand throwing all day and not seeing one, because you've never seen one. When you do you will figure out what all the fuss is about. I would say the top 5 lakes areMille LacsVermillionCassLeechLake of the WoodsThere are plenty more that produce nice fish, even in the MetroWhite BearIndependenceBald EagleEagleForestJust a small list to get you started. Muskiefool
I would say French for you due to the proximity, also learn as much about the lake as possible before you go(it has kicked my more than once)from guys that are on it all the time, as a matter of fact I think our next MI meeting is going to focus on French from a guy that has well over 100 fish C&R'd from there, another thing to keep in mind is there are no lakes that we can say for sure you'll catch or see a fish but French is a great lake. Rebel9921
Edge... French Lake in Faribault would be your best bet... I have fished there few times during late season of 2007 and I really love that lake... The lake isnt too big... so it should be easy to find muskies... Three trips were made to that lake, my partner and I raised a total of 7 muskies (boated 2, lost 5)... I keep on hearing about how this lake gets lot of pressure but I havent seen anything like that... Most number of boats I've seen on the lake was 4, including the one I was on... and out of those 4 boats, 2 were going after muskies... Maybe it happens that Im on the lake at the right time??? We also caught couple northerns and they were big... the smallest Northern caught was 30"...
Esox_Magnum
Being from and also activly fishing Okoboji for Muskies sounds like you need to book a trip down south with your friend. Multiple fish days are not uncommon and at least seeing a quality fish is almost a given. 14 is the most raised in a days time. Out of the 3 of us that fish togeather regularly in tha last 4 years I'm the only one not in the 50" club. I had 2 to the boat just couldn't seal the deal, alsohad possibly 1 hooked I lost but thats just a guess we never saw her.
