Fred_Bear
What are the official special regulations on whitefish. I know something about no minnows and barbless hooks but no specifics at all.Can I use trebbles on jigging spoons and jigging shads? Is it just no minnows or any type of bait that is or was alive at one time?Anything else.... Fred_Bear
Thanks shawn, I also got a chance to look at the ministry of natural resources HSOforum, but I'm still a bit confused. What I'm thinking is that if I'm fishing out of Sioux Narrows I can still use treble hooks and multiple hooks as long as they are barbless???Edit: I'm going to be fishing for lakers. HnB
Yes, it can be confusing. The regs point out that you cannot have more than one hook in Clearwater but they make no mention about a single hook in the Whitefish Bay section. So pinch your treble barbs and good luck. By the way. Pinching the barb gives you a deeper hook set on those bad boys and I've had less than 5% of all the trout I've caught on Lake of the Woods spit the hook. Makes for a good release as well. You'll find the trout average 12 - 18 pounds in there with a great chance at 20 plus. Check these videos. We fish in an unrestricted area but still use one hook, no barb. Enjoy
Fred_Bear
Wow those videos get me excited. I've fished around crow for the last few years now and have never caught anything bigger than 8 lbs. so I'm excited to get my chance at a bigger one this year.Yeah my only worry about the single hook thing is I like to use more than just tube jigs, especially when the bite is tough... HnB
When regulations allow I like to use a treble and a piece of sucker meat but only on lakes where the trout are 3 - 5 lbs. If you catch a big trout on that set up your probably gonna hurt or kill the fish. Have you ever tried airplane jigs? I've caught alot of trout on them and always on the outside treble. Blue on white works well.
dirtking
I e-mailed the department of recourses a few years back and they stated that a treble hook on a jigging spoon / rap ect. was considered one hook (one lure)
