Best Crank/Battery Pack AM/FM radio

SWMuskeye

Question

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone run one of these in their shack? It would be nice to have one to listen to a game or two.

From what I've researched, a decent model runs about $30-80, but it'd be nice to know if someone has a recommendation. Thanks in advance for the replies.

In today's world you can buy an awfully nice little portable radio that runs on batteries and skip all the hand crank silliness. It may be fun, but what you are buying is a $2 radio with a $50 over priced cranking device with a baby magneto on it. If you feel like a wilderness adventurer then buy a hand cranker and crankaway. Or buy a nice AM/FM radio and a box of batteries and save your cranking arm for the fishing REEL!! Ha!

Heck, for $185 you can buy a SONY worldband AM/FM/SW that is unreal for its size. Got one on my desk. listening to Radio China right now.

I just bought a nice compact about 3"x4" Radio Shack radio and have been pretty pleased with the sound and reception. This is a great thread as I was going to ask people what they use for a radio and who's pleased with the radio.

My brother bought one from cabelas and we were in northern wisconsin last summer and the local station had ol' time county on and every 30 minutes he would start crankin it for 5 minutes. After about 2 hours of this, I politely asked (might have cursed him too) if that thing ran on batteries, he said yep, AAA's. I walked to my truck and pulled out a set of AAA's, tossed them to him and we were fine for the next 3 nights.....I am not sure if he has ever used it as a cranker since. Just my 2 cents worth
