15 horse Johnson issues

I have a one year old 15 horse johnson that when you pull the rope to start it, it doesnt catch. You can pull the rope in and out without feeling any resistance. It finaly catches on the 9th or 10th pull then it starts after that. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I took it in to a mech and he couldnt find a thing out of place. Anyone know what to do? Thanks.

Theres a set of dogs that grab a hub. If you get dust and dirt in them they will stick. Take the cover off and flush out he crud with WD-40 while at the same time pulling on the recoil.

i agree with surface tension it did happne to me whil i was at canada and i have 4.5 hp johnson when i tried pull rope and it did not feel like lock to start i start worry cuz i was only on 3rd day of 8 days so i look at it and so i use wd 40 at recoil while i pull rope and it work
