My handle is representative of my education. Have been a chemist for 15+ yrs. Most of those years have been spent in the medical fields. (pharmaceauticals/medical devices). But I am not of the nerd mold by any chance. I do wear lab glasses but they don't have tape across the nose piece. I do wear a lab coat but no pocket protector. I wear my pants so that it is not readily visible what color my socks are, and not many of the shirts in my closet are short sleeved button up plaids.

Hi, I'm Karen-

Born and raised on a farm, I definately grew up spending more time outdoors than I did indoors. Camping, fishing, water skiing, canoeing, ATV's, horses, etc. Like many, I met the wrong guy when I was 17 and left most of my beloved activities behind. Now being 39, single for eight years and having my oldest child graduate, I find myself starving for an outdoor social life.

I was given this HSOforum by a co-worker to check out and feel good about being here. Looking forward to living and learning again.

p.s.- I honestly don't miss the horses.

Back in the mid '90s my son was drafted off the Hastings team to play for Dundas in the playoffs, but college had already started and he never got to accept playing for them. He would have done it in a heartbeat, just to get back at another team in that league...long story about small town ball.

Having not been involved in social activities for a very long time, it was really hard for me to put myself 'out there'; so thank you so much for the warm welcome.

This was a good thing for me to do and I really am looking forward to meeting new people.

I would love to be at the get together and will do everything I can to make it happen.

Again, a BIG THANKS to everyone!

Hey Karen,

I was in your shoes too and took the leap when I saw the get together and told myself that this will be good for me to get out there and meet new people and enjoy their company. It feels good that I am getting to know people on this site and will meet them soon. I know that you will find good people and support here.

Hope

Lisa, Hope, and Shane-

I don't know any of you but by giving me such a great welcome, all of you have already earned a place in my heart.

Sad sad news. My son needed to correct my thoughts about the get together. We are having his graduation party that weekend. I thought it was next weekend. Ergo, I will not be there. How often are there get togethers?

Karen,

You'd be suprised how much you can get to know the folks on here. Then get to a get together and it's like you're already friends. We'll get you out on the boat when I get it back from the shop.

Maja - pretty sure we will be having a Womens ice fishing GTG, and very hopefully, something this fall. There are alot of other GTG's in different areas of the state scattered throughout the year. As things come up they will get plenty of discussion whistle on this forum and other forums. They really are alot of fun and the people and stories are great. - crazy -

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
