Heating a entry way.

I have a question on heating my entry way. I have split level house with a large 12 x 16 entry way that is always cold. We close our basement door to keep the cats down so both the basement and upstairs are warm. But the entryway is always so cold. I have an open storage crawlspace below that has open joists. I was thinking of running some radiant heat underneath. Would this work? What would be the best heating option. I do have 1 forced air vent in the entry way but seems that heat just goes upstairs. Thanks

I have the same problem, I was going to install an electric base board heater. Then I found that if I run the cieling fan in the room closest to the entry way, it blows the warm air down to the entry way. I dont know if this is an option in your case, but it worked in mine. Otherwise I was going to just install the small base board heater, not the most efficiant, but it was cheap to install, and I dont need it unless it gets real cold out.

Yet another victim of the laws of gravity. Hot air rises. I have the same problem here at the bottom of the steps coming into the basement. All the cold air from upstairs congregates in that area. A ceiling fan may help but the heat from the heater would just rise up onto the living room and the entry would still be cold. Good thing you do not have to sit in the entry and watch TV!
