I'm thinking that if you applied 12v to a 6v battery you probably fried (literally) the battery. Don't know exactly how the circuit keyswitch is wired with regard to the generator but if the 12v was also applied across the generator there may have been damage done there as well.

Check to make sure that its not 6 volt positive ground.Get your battery charger hooked up correctly and check your battery terminal connections.Charge it and see if it will start. Its been a few years since i used an H but i am pretty sure they are positive ground.I would quess your battery is just dead and needs a charge. You can also try pulling it on a gravel or concrete surface and pop the clutch and start it that way.Good luck...Hope it starts for you.Look at the battery itself for the + mark and see if it runs to ground.

It is a 6v pos ground. I am aware of that. After doing some checking I am thinking I most likley fried the battery. Any other suggestions welcome, but it doesn't look like there is a whole lot to go wrong with the system. Thanks for the replies!

Just to update, It was the battery. I must have fried it with the charger on 12v and bat low on water. A new bat and all is good!
