BLACKJACK
With all my Christmas celebrations done I made it out for a couple of hours yesterday. About 8 AM I had watched about 12 pheasants - 4 of them roosters - feeding in my corn plot so I hit the nearest cattail slough right away at 9 AM. Nothing but a few hen flushes, they gave me the slip. So over hill and dale to another cattail swamp. This time we had some luck, one rooty got up cackling, got him, got over to the other side of the slough and another one gets up, got him on the third shot - love that automatic! Both birds dropped into thick cattails but I headed over to the spot and then the old dog rounded them up. They had poofed into the snow, I never would have found them without her. Numerous times I had hens beating their way up thru the cattails right by me, dog right on their tail, always a rush, waiting to see if its a rooster or a hen!!!One of the roosters was actully a one legger, the other leg was gone above the joint, first time I had seen that. But the stump was healed up good and his crop was packed with corn. One more weekend to go!!!
