2005 550 Arctic Cat Pantera wont idle.

ishgood

Question

Pulled the sled out of storage. Start it up, wont run unless its choked or throttle is about 80% open.

Put a fuel pressure gage on. 6-7 lbs. Looks good.

Am I looking at the evil awful carb rebuild?

How hard is it to do this?

Thanks.

I'll assume you let it warm up for a few minutes and it still wouldn't idle off choke. Mice like the foam rubber that covers the air in on the air box, take a look if its chewed up. That foam needs to be there for proper restriction.

Look for air leaks in the fuel lines like a crack hose or a loose connection.

Its harder to get at the carbs then the actual cleaning and rebuild IMO. Normally I'll pull the air box to free up room to get the carbs out, it also lessens the chance of cracking the rubber.

No sign of mice in the air box.

I pulled the bowls off the carbs. Clean as a whistle.

I think the gas was so bad it just wouldnt burn. Emptied the tank, cleaned out the lines, put it some fresh non-oxy and it runs like new again. Idles like a dream.

Never seen gas get that bad before. No water or anything, just old I guess.
