mmeyer
Hey All,I am wanting to submit some photos for out local visitors guide. They want all photos to be at least 300 dpi. My photos all come out at 240 dpi. I know how to change it but what does this do to my image? Will it change the size or quality? I am shooting a 6.0 mp Nikon D50 if that's important.ThanksMike
Dbl
Mike,Printers normally require 300ppi because that is optimum for their press. If you upsize at less than 10%-20% your original file size there should really be no problem at all. Some commercial programs and even some printers use RIP software to do that with excellent results. When a digital image is prepared for printing on a printing press, pixels are converted to dots. Dots have spaces between them. 300 pixels become 150 dots and spaces, so 300ppi becomes roughly 150dpi. 150dpi (or 300ppi) is the standard for printing photographic quality images because the average person cannot see the "dots" at a few inches away. Now isn't that all clear as mud?
